Still Alive

I might be the worst blogger ever....
I'm still alive though.
I still check in on everyone else's blogs.

I have a couple of projects coming up that I think will encourage me to spend more time here, sharing my crafts and photos.

I'm working on a crochet something-or-other right now that I'm pretty excited about. No photos as of yet though because it's a gift for someone. It has to stay at least a little bit secret.

And in honor of this lovely spring weather, a blue morpho butterfly

New Crochet!

Hi everyone!

Thanks for visiting me here.....even though I haven't been around for while. I just get so busy working, crocheting, crafting, photographing, reading, know, that I don't always have tons of time for blogging. I'm awake a bit earlier than usual today on this frosty morning so I thought I'd take the time to catch up on a few of my internet things, yay!

Crochet stuff:

A few posts ago I mentioned that I wanted to take part in the one-a-day group over on Ravelry. Man, do I ever suck at this! haha. It's not that I don't/can't crochet every day because I totally do but I keep having issues that seem to prevent me from crocheting a portion of the same project every single day. I had yarn issues, I frogged something, I started over, I ran out of yarn, the store I shop at doesn't have what I need, yadda yadda yadda. Anyways, my one-a-day attempts have all been thwarted somehow. I've started and finished several projects since "joining" the one-a-day crowd but they were all smaller things and only took a few days to make so it's not the same. I will continue to crochet every day and hopefully soon I will have a project that I like (and enough yarn to finish it) so that I can officially participate in this one-a-day business.

Here's a quick round up of some of my recent finished projects:

Cozy Neckerchief - granny triangle neck warmer with picot edging. 1 ball of Patons Kroy Socks in 'winter eclipse'.

Colour Change Skinny Scarf - simple dc (UK treble) striped scarf with fringe. 1 ball of James C. Brett Monsoon. I lost the ball band for this but I think the colour number was S3.

Sock Scarf for Bill - Technically this one isn't complete yet but I only have a tiny bit more to go so I thought I'd add it here anyways. 1 ball of Bernat Sox Multi in 'desert storm'.

Lace Baktus - 6 foot long crochet version of the popular baktus scarf. I love this so much, I have made 2 of them already! About 1/2 ball of Patons Lace in 'bonfire'.

I've had a lot of inquiries on the Lace Baktus. People ask me about it whenever I wear it out and everyone wants to touch it! For those of you on Ravelry, my project page is here. I made the pattern for myself after searching for a pattern to use with the Patons Lace and not finding anything I liked. I'm going to post the pattern/tutorial here in the next few days for anybody that is interested.

Til next time,

Been Gone So Long

Hello Everyone,

I've been away from the blog for so long, let's see if I remember how this goes......

I have a few crochet projects that I'm working on, no really good photos right now so I'll hold off on posting the pictures until next time.

I will direct your attention here though:

For my friends on Ravelry, scoot over to the One a Day group and have a look. It's a great idea and I've actually committed 2 of my WIPs to the ongoing CAL/KAL.
The idea is to break down a large project into smaller, managable elements and then complete one element of the project every day.
I'm going to knock off one stripe on each of a granny stripe blanket and granny shawl every day. I'll see how that goes and if I can keep up.

I've also been working on some super cool jewelry designs and have some finished pieces ready to photograph and offer up for sale - stay tuned for an announcement about my new shop opening!

Here's a bit of a sneak peek

And it's off to bed with me,
Goodnight everyone xoxo

Guess what!?

Hello blogworld buddies,

First of all, Bruce and I thank everyone for the well-wishes that were given when I announced that he was spending the night at the vet's office. He is just fine and has gotten right back to work on his plans for world domination.
Please excuse the rather poorly cell phone photo, but here he is, looking sassy:

Taking over the world with his good looks

Secondly, you'll never guess what horrible thing happened to me. Ok, I'm fairly sure someone could guess but that makes it no less horrible.
My computer died!! I don't even know what happened. I was just hanging out with my lappy, probably thinking about all the cool things I could share on my blog when all of a sudden........nothing. It was just dead. This was particularly heartbreaking to me because not only have I lost all of my movies, music, photos, and programs....I lost an entire semester of school work. I'm sure some of you know how much work goes into a 3rd year term paper and for those of you who do not, let's just say it's not pretty.
I tend to email myself copies of my class notes and other such things just in case of some terrifying event like this so I was able to hang onto some things but I did not email myself copies of all the research that was going into 2 term papers, the outlines for said papers and the beginnings of the first drafts. All that stuff was sitting on my hard drive patiently waiting to be backed up on the weekend (which was only a day away) when I was going to do some computer maintenance.

I kind of had a breakdown. I lost my shit over losing my term papers, I cried because that little lappy was my only computer and I had been extremely proud about being able to save enough money to buy it for myself. That may not seem like a big deal to some people but it's no secret that I am not well off and that I don't have many nice things. It's also no secret that I bust my hump for everything I do have so to me, it was a big deal. Anyways, I'll spare you guys any more depressing rants about my school related nervous breakdowns and the sadness over losing all my photos and stuff. Long story short, at least half of the situation has been rectified and there's another computer in the house. That means I can blog again! haha......

Now I have to tell you about my hooky happenings since I last shared with everyone.

I completed a black, purple and orange Halloween bunting to decorate the empty wall above my tv. I have to admit, it's still hanging up there and it's December!

I started working on a Queen Anne's Lace scarf in burgundy. It's long enough to be a scarf right now but I just keep going. I had to try it out when I spied THIS post from the lovely Alice (and Raymond). Her scarf is just so beautiful!

Then there's the granny shawl I posted about very briefly HERE. This was to be a Christmas present for my mum but things seem to have gone awry and I can't get my hands on any more Vanna's Choice to finish it. There are no shops in my city that sell VC so I have to go out of town and further south to shop for it. I haven't had the opportunity to do this for ages and it doesn't seem likely that I'll be able to go before Christmas. Needless to say, I finally accepted the fact that dear mum won't be getting this particular item for some time. I've decided to make her a reasonably sized lap blanket in easily accessible yarn instead. Progress photos to come very soon.

I finished a tissue box cozy in black, purple and green. You know, like The Joker. Yes, the one from Batman. Haha, I do love me some Batman.

When I ran out of yarn for other projects, I started hooking up some squares for the Bullseye Blanket. Pattern can be found HERE. I'm just using cotton scraps for this. This really is a fantastic pattern that will put those scraps to good use! I do actually have a couple of photos of this one:

Blue bullseye

Green bullseye
My circles are a bit wavy but I don't mind. Things like that usually work themselves out after the piece is finished and has been washed/used. It's just for me anyways, it's not like it has to be gifted to someone.

So that's pretty much the roundup. The 'quick and dirty' if you will.
Now I've got to be off, I have some crochet to tend to.

As always, thanks so much for stopping by and I'll be talking to you soon,

Hugs and kisses from wintery Ontario xoxo.

Hello all,

This morning my poor cat-baby had to be taken to the vet. We think Bruce may have a urinary infection. He's been acting differently for a little while, walking around the house crying for apparently no reason and he's peed outside of his litter - which he has never done before!

Bruce, my cat-baby
We packed him up this morning and drove him off to the vet. They checked him out and told us it's very possible he's got a urinary infection of some sort. Of course, they don't know this until they can get a urine sample to test and of course Bruce had an empty bladder. Pee fail!

So my poor kitty had to stay with the vet today. I had to leave him there and then take off to work. I wasn't prepared for him to be staying over at the vet's office tonight so I didn't bring anything from home to leave with blankie, no toys, nothing. I feel so bad!

Hopefully he can get all sorted out and back to his normal self but I think he may need some extra love when he comes home.

Kisses from Bruce!
Lots of love from Lindsey and Bruce!

Hello my pretties.....muah ha ha

It's that time of year again, my favourite holiday is upon us. Happy Halloween everyone!

I am so lucky to have scored the weekend off work, that means more Halloween fun for me! I'm so excited, can you tell?
I have some really cool plans this year. My friends and I will be going to the Barrie zombie walk and after party. More info can be found HERE

We are going to have the best time ever.....although the forcast claims it is going to rain ALL DAY. What's up with that? I don't want to get all wet and have my crazy hair deflate and my makeup wash off. Oh well, I'll just have to hope someone made a mistake and it will be dry tomorrow. This year's costume does include pants though, just in case.

Speaking of costumes, I totally have one of those! Seeing as how I've been raving about some zombie event all month, I bet you've already assumed that I will be dressing up as a zombie. You are, of course, correct. But what kind of zombie?
A risen from the grave zombie? A freshly undead or newly bitten zombie? A newfangled man made zombie?
This year, I'm breaking away from the old school and going the route of the man made zombie. Created by some kind of experiment/virus in the style of 28 Days Later or Resident Evil.

Oh, and I'm a mad scientist. I've got a lab coat and everything!

Clearly, I've injected myself with my crazy experiment after being unable to find test subjects......or, something had gone terribly wrong in the lab and I had been infected after a confrontation with one of the test subjects. Either way, I ended up a zombie.

Unfortunately, I haven't had any time at all to do a full makeup test. I'll just have to get up in the morning and wing it I suppose. I did get a chance to try out my new contact lenses and some light makeup though. Have a peek.......

No makeup here, just the outfit. Shirt, tie and lab coat, complete with pens in the pocket.

And here is some minimal makeup around the eyes and mouth.

Detail of contact lenses and some light makeup around the eyes.

I hope you liked my little preview. I'll be back after the event with some more photos of my costume in all its bloody, gory splendor!

It's really quite late where I am so I've got to head off to bed (or else I'll be too tired to get up and do my makeup).

Goodnight lab rats!
